I have recently been inspired by my daughter to write my first children’s book titled ‘My Big Brown Eyes’.
It is a great book for reading to toddlers but an even more fantastic tool for teaching nursery aged children not only how to read, but also how to appreciate themselves for how they are and who they are.
It is a book aimed at promoting self confidence and self esteem especially in black girls. There is still a lack of representation of this group of children in the media and beyond, and my book aims to fill it. The simple yet effective sentences will help these young girls to be proud of their features just the way they are. The beautiful and vibrant images were carefully thought out and drawn to enhance the experience of the short story.
I’ve already seen the positive impact the book has had on my own daughter. The way her face lights up whilst I read it to her, in addition to her touching her own features as we go through the pages is simply priceless!
